This week, we heard from Esther Cotton about her experience!

I've always loved tech, but hesitated to turn my love for tech into a career. After my office closed during the pandemic, I decided it was time to do something scary and push past imposter syndrome, and dive into the tech industry.

I completed a beginner-friendly web development bootcamp through SheCodes, and then went on to complete both a cybersecurity bootcamp and cloud computing bootcamp through Generation USA. I also started attending virtual tech conferences and job fairs, especially ones focused in DEI and inclusivity in tech. It was during one of these conferences that I heard about the Sauce Labs fellowship program, and considered applying.

I was so nervous, and imposter syndrome reared its ugly head, and I almost talked myself out of applying for the fellowship program, unsure if I would really fit in with the program, or if I actually had anything to offer to it. I felt as though I didn't have enough professional tech experience, but I convinced myself to apply anyway. The worst that could happen was that I wouldn't be accepted, but at least I would have tried.

I was so excited and surprised when Paloma informed me that I had been accepted into the fellowship! To be a part of this program, being able to both learn and work, and have access to mentors and a great team of supportive fellowship members has been such an amazing experience. I'm excited for all the personal and professional growth to come.
